The
Trevieren Singers
Is
a 4-part (SATB) mixed voice choir that was founded in 1985 in Zedelgem.
Its
nickname is The English Choir
In
regular demand for weddings, masses, aperitif concerts, anniversaries and a variety of
other performances, The Trevieren Singers number around 35 members, which includes a
sprinkling of multi-national members.
The
choir is not associated with any particular religion or political party and is non-racial
in its philosophy.
The
repertoire is wide-ranging and multi-lingual and although firmly based in the English folk
tradition, incorporates music ranging from early church pieces to arrangements of more
modern secular material.
Performances
have included two concerts in England, performances with the Concord Chamber Choir from
Pennsylvania, the Royal Tunbridge Wells Orpheus Male Voice Choir from England and Het
Brugs Mannenkoor. The choir has also given
two Christmas concerts in its own right (2000, 2002) and is preparing the next for 11th
December 2004.
The
founder of the choir and its musical director throughout its 19 years is John Dear, an
Englishman who has lived for many years in Belgium. In
his spare time, John writes and arranges music for the choir.
His
philosophy is simple singing is fun and everyone can sing!
